Bahar Yurukoglu's Installation | Video and Sound

Plexiberg |2016 | Dimensions Variable |

An installation by Bahar Yurukoglu where he uses plexiglass with video projections while also playing sound of melting ice. The installation “Plexiberg” was an abstract representation of an exploded iceberg made with Plexiglas installed throughout the space. The installation had five projectors with white light and sound of an iceberg melting.

The colours, lights and its interacted structure made the installation very  unique. I was intrigue by its complexity and its soundscape(which is the sound of iceberg melting) in combination with Plexiglas pieces, which are supposedly a representation of iceberg.

The way in which the artist used simple geometric shaped plexiglass stood out to me as they created a mixture of shadows with straight lines, sharp edges and curves of the shapes, adding a sense of complexity to the basic cut out shape of the glasses. Another aspect of the complexity seen is the layering technique, which added new colours especially when opposite coloured pieces were combined. The projected light also helped emphasised the illustration of distinct colours. Overall, although at first glance, the components used in this piece are pretty simple but the layout of various prompted the piece into a more elaborate outcome.
